Building a stronger global supply chain with operations in West Africa
As part of its commitment to sustainable and diversified global growth, Komar—through its manufacturing arm Star—has established a new manufacturing base in Togo, West Africa. On January 18, 2025, the first employees began preparing for operations at the facility, which is set to produce and export millions of garments each year.
The state-of-the-art facility, located in the Plateforme Industrielle d’Adétikopé industrial park near Lomé, Togo, will be the country’s first large-scale, export-focused apparel manufacturing center. It is expected to create 4,520 direct and indirect jobs, with a focus on providing economic opportunities for women.
Located in Africa’s cotton belt, operations in West Africa enable collaboration with local mills and the development of a more integrated supply chain—from cotton cultivation to finished garments.
Togo provides an agile, duty-free manufacturing base, reducing reliance on traditional supply markets and enhancing Star’s ability to adapt to global trade dynamics while delivering cost efficiencies for Komar and Star’s clients worldwide. Additionally, Togo’s deepwater port and proximity to key shipping routes reduce transit times to the U.S., boosting responsiveness and delivery speed.
“Star’s expansion into Africa is a key part of our growth strategy, and we are excited to contribute to the manufacturing boom in West Africa,” said Charlie Komar, President and CEO of Komar.
The new facility meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, reinforcing Komar’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
This project, part of the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Cotton-to-Textiles Value Chain Study designed to build an integrated regional textiles supply chain across West Africa, marks a significant step in Komar’s dedication to innovation, ethical employment, and sustainability within the global apparel industry.
